One can’t help but be drawn into the beauty of Tina Jenkins Crawley, when I say beauty I mean it in every aspect of the word, at first meeting you get drawn into her pretty face then you hear her sing and you really get a sense of what anointing really is. It’s the ability to utilize what God has given you to draw people in and that is exactly what she did. From her huge stage presence getting the people involved in worship to her welcoming “my friend” phrase Tina makes you feel as though you knew her forever and we are just what God called us all to be to one another; family.
This talent and loving personality has earned her the title of the “Jill Scott of gospel music”. A shy singer starting out in her teens on into her college years she recalls singing at one point only being about her and even giving it up for about five years. Many times it seemed like others did not appreciate her writing and vocal talent, recalling writing songs and having others ask her to give her songs to another to sing because they believed she didn’t have the voice to sing them. Her thoughts at this time of uncertainty – “ I remember feeling like, even though at that time I wasn’t confident even in me, I remember sinking internally and having to take about forty-eight hours of prayer asking God, you know Lord if you gave me these songs and it was only meant for somebody else to sing them, please make me ok with that, I want to be the vessel but the most important thing is communicating to God what you want communicated and I feel like because I was ready to give it up sacrificially back to God, he honored that” and this is exactly what she has done she has honored God in every stage of her growth as a singer.
